Recent Grants – May 2018

May 3rd, 2018

The Guild has recently awarded over £10,000 in grants to provide improved patient and relatives care at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

CRITICAL CARE WARD

We have funded the purchase of a bladder scanner that will benefit post-operative patients, as Matron Keisha explained; “A bladder scanner is a diagnostic tool that measures the amount of urine in the bladder or determines how much urine remains in the bladder after urination as a way to measure residual levels. It’s a quick and non-invasive tool.

“Post-op patients are at risk of urinary retention once a urinary catheter is removed following
surgery. The scanner allows for any nurse or doctor to look at a patient’s bladder and ascertain if they are in retention. This early assessment allows for timely intervention and prevents the patient having discomfort or pain.”

The grant was co-funded by M&G Investments, who donated £3,000 towards the total cost of £8,140, and we are extremely grateful to them for their contribution.

BARTS HEART CENTRE

We have given £2,430 to supply four porter’s chairs that will improve the comfort and experience for patients going to surgery, and £2,800 for the purchase of sofas and scatter cushions for the 3rd and 6th floor Bereavement Spaces to provide greater comfort for families in their time of need.
