Alex Shipolini qualified from Barts and The London in 1985, trained in cardiothoracic surgery at St Thomas’, Guys and Kings College Hospitals, London, and returned to Barts in 2000 when he was appointed as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon.
Alex has developed his expertise in high risk contrary artery and aortic valve surgery alongside his research interests, including neurocognitive protection and outcomes after cardiac surgery, as well as the effects of sleep apnoea on cardiac disease. In addition, he regularly organises and delivers national and international courses at the Royal College of Surgeons in London.
